Deadly Rains Set To End This Week

SOUTH China should see an end this week to torrential rains that have killed close to 400 people in recent weeks, the National Meteorological Center said yesterday.

Many regions, including Fujian and Guangdong provinces, can look forward to sunny days from tomorrow, which means that flooding in south China would ease, the NMC said on its Website.

However, it warned of rainstorms sweeping through regions including southern Zhejiang, southern Jiangxi, southwestern Sichuan and eastern Yunnan today.

The NMC urged local authorities to continue to step up inspections to protect lives and property.

It said high temperatures would continue in north China today, including in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the provinces of Heilongjiang, Hebei, Shanxi and Shandong, with highs expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius in northeastern Inner Mongolia.
