Death for 3 who killed family over sister's hate
THREE murderers were sentenced to death yesterday for killing a tax bureau director, his wife and two children in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the court said.
Ling Xiaojuan, 36, younger sister of the killed tax official Zhou Zixiong's 47-year-old wife Ling Xiaoyun, was the ringleader, the court said. She convinced her niece and the niece's boyfriend to participate in the killings.
The three - Ling, her niece Su Jie and the boyfriend surnamed Liu - said they will appeal, according to China National Radio.
They were arrested in May after killing Zhou, 44, director of Hezhou City Tax Bureau, his wife and two teenage children 18 days previously.
According to the court, Ling Xiaojuan held a grudge against her sister related to family financial issues and responsibilities. She was also envious of her sister's family's property, according to the court.
Ling said in court she wanted to inherit some of her sister's property but did not intend to kill her. She asked for the judge's forgiveness, saying: "I have two young children. Please give me a chance to atone for my sin."
Ling said her sister Ling Xiaoyun was rich but mean, and refused to cover medical bills for their eldest sister, who subsequently died, Yanzhao Metropolis newspaper reported in May.
She also claimed she worked for her sister with the promise of 2,000 yuan (US$315.4) per month but received only 1,500 yuan.
Yanzhao Metropolis newspaper said the murder stemmed from hatred of her sister accumulated over years.
