Death for Shenzhen kidnapper who kills schoolboy

A kidnapper in Shenzhen was sentenced to death yesterday for killing a 12-year-old student, Guangzhou Daily reported today.

The convict Zou Chun kidnapped the victim surnamed Yi on October 20, 2009 while the boy was walking alone in a residential area. After that, he called Yi's father for US$500,000 in ransom. However, because the boy was crying for help in Zou's room, Zou choke him to death and dumped his body into the Maozhou River.

Zou was captured on November 12, 2009 and Yi's body was found in the river on November 27.

The Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court rejected Zou's plea that he had accomplices in the crime in an attempt to reduce his punishment. Zou was also ordered to pay 608,000 yuan to Yi's family as compensation.
