Death for doctor who slaughtered 8 kids
A FORMER doctor has been sentenced to death for stabbing eight children dead and injuring five outside a school in south China's Fujian Province.
Zhen Minsheng, 42, showed no emotion when shown 15 video clips showing 55 seconds of carnage as he stabbed children arriving at school, reported Xinhua news agency today.
The former doctor at a community hospital in Nanping City nodded to admit the video shot on March 23 was valid, the report said. He requested an appeal after the verdict.
Parents of the victims lowered their head and hugged each other when the video was played in court.
Zhen said he planned to kill 30 students that day, claiming it was revenge for his ex-girlfriend who dumped him and his boss who edged him out of the hospital, according to previous reports.
Prosecutors said he was depressed after frustration with jobs and failed relationships, but Zhen had no history of mental illness.
The victims' parents said Zhen's conviction didn't satisfy them, and vowed to sue the school for more compensation, Xinhua said.
Nanping government has paid 260,000 yuan (US$38,000) to each family of the eight dead pupils.
Four of the injured children have been moved out of intensive care to receive rehabilitation, while the worst injured, Zhang Xuexin, was still in the ICU for observation, according to doctors with Nanping No.1 Hospital.
