Death for hostage taker,brother-in-law killer
A MAN who took eight people hostage in a hospital after killing his ex-wife's younger brother was sentenced to death in southeast China's Fujian Province yesterday.
Zeng Jianfeng was also found guilty of kidnapping, intentional injury and robbery by the Intermediate People's Court of Fuzhou City, the provincial capital.
The sentence also included the confiscation of all Zeng's personal property and the lifetime deprivation of his political rights, according to a court statement.
Zeng stabbed Zhan Kuanlin to death at Zhan's home on the morning of April 5 ¨? five days after Zeng was divorced from his sister. He also injured his ex-wife and a security guard who tried to stop him.
Zeng grabbed a motorcycle from a passerby and rode to the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University, where he took hostage three infants, three women recovering from giving birth, a pregnant woman and a hospital worker.
By noon, police managed to subdue Zeng and rescued the eight people unharmed.
