Death plunge at Foxconn affiliate

A worker died at a subsidiary of Foxconn after he fell from his dormitory building in southern China Foshan City yesterday morning, the latest death in a series of such incidents in Foxconn's Shenzhen plant.

The employee was a summer intern hired by Chimei Innolux Corp, the LCD maker affiliate to Foxconn Technology Group. Chimei confirmed the man's death in a statement today.

Ten workers have committed suicide by jumping from buildings in Foxconn's massive Shenzhen plant this year, putting the Taiwan-based company under scrutiny for its tough working conditions.

It was not clear yet whether yesterday's incident was a suicide. Local police have started an investigation.

The dead worker from Hebei Province started the internship on July 2 but was fired for being absent from work for several days. The man was packing to leave before his fall.
