Death reprieve for professor killer

A BEIJING court yesterday sentenced a law school student to death with a two-year reprieve for cutting the throat of a professor who had sex with his ex-girlfriend.

Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court said yesterday after the sentence that Fu Chengli, 23, was given a two-year reprieve because he surrendered to police after committing the crime last October, according to the Tianjing-based Daily News.

The former student of China University of Political Science and Law was never remorseful about killing his professor, Cheng Chunming. Fu's lawyer Zhang Bo said the only thing Fu wanted was his own execution.

Fu said he killed the 43-year-old married professor because he had an affair with his ex-girlfriend, a student of Cheng's.
