Death sentence for bus bomb culprit
A MAN who set a bus on fire, killing two people and injuring 35 others, has been sentenced to death by a court in Guangzhou, capital of south China’s Guangdong Province.
Apparently tired of coping with a prolonged illness, Ou Changsheng resented society and wanted to vent his frustration, Guangzhou Intermediate People’s Court said yesterday.
On July 15 last year, he carried a homemade explosive device onto a packed city bus. When the bus pulled into a stop, he detonated the device and ran off.
Police caught Ou the next day and seized another six explosive devices from his room.
In court, Ou said he would need time to consider whether to appeal, according to a China News Service report.
The 27-year-old was previously a gifted and hardworking carpenter, according to China News Week.
But a slipped disc in 2012 meant he was no longer physically capable of doing his job and he fell into a deep depression, the magazine reported.
