Death toll from China quake rises to 81
A 3.7-magnitude aftershock that occurred in southwest China's Yunnan Province yesterday evening killed one person, the latest victim following multiple earthquakes that hit a mountainous area in the province on Friday.
The Ministry of Civil Affairs said today that the quakes have killed 81 people in the city of Zhaotong.
The latest victim was a two-year-old child who was fatally injured after being buried under a fallen bounding wall when the aftershock struck.
Yunnan has received 59.4 million (US$9.43 million) in yuan quake relief funds thus far, the ministry said.
