Death toll hits 10 after building collapse
THE death toll from a collapsed apartment building in the southwest China city of Guiyang stood at 10 as of 7pm yesterday, with six people still missing, local authorities said. The nine-story building, which was home to 114 people collapsed at 11:30am on Wednesday.
More than 100 firefighters and soldiers were yesterday continuing to search through the debris, while sniffer dogs and life detectors were also employed in a bid to find the missing people. The head of the firefighting team said yesterday there was still hope of finding the missing people alive. The tragedy was likely caused by a rain-triggered landslide.
