Death toll in Sichuan car crash rises to 21, at least 11 students included
Five more people had died in yesterday's fatal road accident in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, bringing the death toll to 21, said the provincial authority today.
The killed victims included at least 11 students, according to previous reports while identities of new dead victims remained unclear.
At around 2pm yesterday, a passenger bus collided with a heavy-duty truck loaded with sand and cobblestones in Zhenwu Village in Dazhou City, local authorities said. The bus plunged into a three-meter-deep riverbed, the Dazhou emergency response office said.
The bus and the 24 people on board, including 12 students, was then buried by sand and cobblestones from the overturned truck.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
