Death toll rises to 1,944 in Qianghai quake
THE death toll has climbed to 1,944 from a devastating earthquake in northwest China's Qinghai Province, with 216 people still missing, the rescue headquarters said today.
As of 8 a.m. Monday, the 7.1-magnitude quake, which struck the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu at 7:49 am Wednesday, has also left 12,315 injured, of which 1,134 are in serious condition, the rescue headquarters said.
