Death toll rises to 44 in Yunnan landslide
The death toll from a landslide which hit a village in southwest China's Yunnan Province has risen to 44 after two more body was retrieved, said a local official early today.
Liu Jianhua, mayor of Zhaotong City, said in the wee hours today, rescuers were still searching the two missing residents despite the snowy weather.
The landslide hit the Zhaojiagou area of Gaopo Village around 8:20 am yesterday. Forty-six residents -- 27 adults and 19 children -- were buried in the rock and mud debris.
Two other injured people were sent to a nearby hospital, and it has been confirmed that their injuries are not life-threatening.
