Death-on-row inmate in SW China escapes during hospital medical check

POLICE are offering a 20,000-yuan reward for the capture of a death-on-row inmate who escaped in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.

The 35-year-old inmate, called Ajizifa in Yi language, was escorted to the Liping Hospital and took a chance to run away at around 9am on Monday, police said.

Ajizifa was detained in June 2013 for transporting and selling drugs. He was sentenced to death last year. He is awaiting for the final verdict in the local detention house following the appealing trial.

Local police said they haven’t gained any clue of his whereabouts.

Police didn't say why he was taken to hospital.
