Deaths rise to 5 in village blaze
FIVE people have been confirmed dead in a village fire on Friday in Sanjiang County in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, rescuers said yesterday.
A firefighting official said 3,276 villagers were now homeless after their houses burnt down. An investigation team led by Zheng Junkang, mayor of Liuzhou City, which administers Sanjiang, found the fire was caused by a malfunctioning electric switch at a rice mill owned by a villager, who died in the blaze.
