Defense denial
CHINA'S Defense Ministry has denied reports that People's Liberation Army (PLA) units have entered level-2 combat readiness.
Online media reports said on Friday that the PLA's Guangzhou Military Area Command and the South China Sea Fleet have entered this level of combat readiness. But a brief press release on the ministry's official website yesterday said those reports were untrue. China has maintained a monthlong maritime standoff with the Philippines in the South China Sea in a dispute over Huangyan Island.
