Deputy principal detained in rape, killing of girl
A DEPUTY principal of a primary school in north China’s Hebei Province has been detained in the rape and killing a 6-year-old girl.
Yang Haijun, in his 40s, had admitted that he picked the girl up when he saw her walking home and told her he would take her home, one of Yang’s neighbors said a police insider told him. Instead, he took her to his home and asked if her family was rich, the neighbor said.
Yang was removed from his post on Thursday, five days after the girl was reported missing. Police in Laiyuan County took him into custody on Friday, when the girl’s body was found, the Beijing News reported.
The girl’s family said she was lying at the mortuary, nude, with bruises on her neck, wrapped with cellophane tape and with four or five plastic bags covering her head. Her legs were fractured and she had blood stains on her bottom, they said.
Yang reportedly remained calm as police investigated the disappearance, Beijing Times reported. Neighbors said he has a wife and son, and they never suspected him.
