Detained TV star tested for drug use
A famous Chinese actress tested positive for methamphetamine use after being detained yesterday by Beijing police acting on tip-offs from neighbourhood residents who alleged she was sheltering drug users.
Fu Yiwei, 51, became a household name after taking on the role of Su Daji, a royal concubine in the popular 1990s TV series “Fengshenbang,” which followed the life of the last emperor of China’s Shang Dynasty.
Thousands of comments expressing concern have been posted on Fu’s personal Weibo account, which was last updated on February 7.
It is the latest high-profile case in which police have acted on tips from residents in the capital city’s Chaoyang District, where people are known for their enthusiasm for assisting the police.
Fu is not the only celebrity to feel the wrath of observant Chaoyang neighbours, who receive cash rewards from the police.
Other celebrities who have been targeted as a result of tip-offs from area residents include reality TV star Li Daimo, actor Wang Xuebing, novelist Chen Wanning (also known as Ning Caishen), microblogger Xue Biqun (also known as Xue Manzi), actor Huang Haibo and director Wang Quan’an.
