Diaoyu sovereignty job of all Chinese
THE Foreign Ministry spokesman said yesterday that all Chinese, including people from Taiwan, have the responsibility to safeguard China's sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands.
The Diaoyu Islands and the affiliated islets have been the inherent territory of China since ancient times, Hong Lei said.
Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou, under the protection of the island's naval and air forces, inspected the Pengjia Islet yesterday.
Ma inspected a mobile patrol station on the islet, was briefed on radar monitoring missions and spoke with the Dongsha and Nansha coast guard command centers. He later made a speech in front of a monument on the islet and praised those who have helped to protect the Diaoyu Islands.
The Pengjia Islet, 1.14 square kilometers, is the biggest of the three "Northern Islands" of Taiwan. The Diaoyu Islands are located 156 km northeast of the Pengjia Islet. The islet holds a strategic position in the East China Sea.
