Director Lu plans short Expo movie
THE Nanjing massacre movie "City of Life and Death" director Lu Chuan will make an eight-minute film to be shown at the Expo Shanghai's China Pavilion.
Lu, 38, said yesterday that the theme film would display "China's urbanization process over the past three decades" for showing in a cinema on the top story of the 49-meter-high China Pavilion.
Although Lu's specialty is documentary films, he said this time he would try a "poetic" one.
"During eight minutes, it is a mission impossible to record the history of Chinese urbanization," he said.
Instead, he would present a sense of the "massive scale and grand style" of the urbanization process, and the "unprecedented spirit and strong conviction" of the country's urban constructors, Lu said.
He added the production team would be drawn from the crew of the US$11 million production "City of Life and Death" but the actors would be new to the screen.
