Disaster relief goods found in supermarket
TOWELS donated to people affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Sichuan Province in May 2008 were found on sale in a supermarket in Sichuan's neighboring Shaanxi Province.
The towels printed with "in memory of earthquake victims" and "donated by Henan Provincial Government" were mixed with other towels in a supermarket in Xingping City. Customers were shocked to find these disaster relief goods, a local newspaper, China Business View, reported today.
Supermarket managers were not aware of such towels and checked their stocks after receiving complaints from customers. Two more towels were discovered.
Qingdao Xiyingmen Group, manufacturer of the towels, explained that its workers mistakenly packed the disaster relief towels with those delivered to the supermarket, Zhu Jianqiang, a sales manager of Qingdao Xiyingmen, told the newspaper.
Zhu apologized for customers who were emotionally hurt by the mistake.
The towels have been taken off the shelf and the supermarket offered refund for the towels, said Zhang Ajuan, a supermarket manager. She promised to tighten supervision to prevent such things from happening again.
