Discipline official jumps to his death

A SENIOR discipline watchdog official in Henan Province jumped to his death from the top floor of his apartment building, police said yesterday.

Police in Luoyang City said Zhang Guangsheng, 54, secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the city's public security bureau, jumped to his death after suffering days of insomnia and depression, reported Caing.com, a business website.

Zhang was found dead in front of the 33-floor building on Thursday afternoon. Zhang lived on the 18th floor of the building.

His supervisor said Zhang recently took sick leave because he felt "overwhelmed by work pressure."

Zhang's wife told the website she received a short call from her husband in which he said, "sorry" and "got to go."

An unnamed official told the website that Zhang was in a bad mood after his team did poorly in a performance rating.

Several government officials have committed suicide across the country recently.

Chen Guoqing, a senior official in Yanggu County, Shandong Province, was found dead hanging from a ceiling fan in his office on April 20, Xinhua news agency reported.

Guan Keping, an official in Jiangxi Province, jumped to his death from a government building on April 12.
