Disease control officials warn flu virus will spread

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention warned yesterday that the flu virus may spread from November.

The spread of influenza will peak in December and January, it said, adding that traveling during the National Day holiday can help the virus spread.

The center advised that pregnant women, seniors, infants, medical personnel and patients with chronic diseases be vaccinated.

It also recommended people lead a healthy lifestyle, improve their immunity and ensure ventilation in order to prevent flu and other respiratory diseases.

Meanwhile, there have been no reports of human infection by the H7N9 virus in the last two months, the center said.

A total of 134 cases had been reported by the end of August with 45 deaths, it said. Infections had been recorded in 12 provinces and municipalities.

The CDC said it is prepared for a possible H7N9 outbreak this autumn and winter.
