Disposal of nuclear waste ‘not on agenda’
CHINA’S mainland yesterday dismissed media reports claiming it will help Taiwan to dispose of its nuclear waste.
The issue is not on the agenda of the upcoming meeting between cross-Strait affairs chiefs from the two sides, said Fan Liqing, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
Zhang Zhijun, director of the office, will meet Andrew Hsia, Taiwan’s mainland affairs chief, in Kinmen County this weekend. Taiwan media reported that Zhang and Hsia would discuss shipping low-level radioactive waste from Taiwan to the mainland for disposal.
“The media reports are not correct,” Fan said.
