Doctor ignores hanging body

A doctor allegedly turned a blind eye to the body of a 66-year-old patient who hanged herself at the entrance of her ward in Shenyang Fukang Mental Health Care Center in northern China early yesterday.

Surveillance cameras show that the doctor punched a fingerprint time clock, installed two meters from the woman's ward, twice between 1:55am and 2:25am. He looked at the body of woman, Su Xiuyun, and walked away without doing anything.

Police in Shenyang, the capital of north China's Liaoning Province, have obtained the video and detained the doctor as part of an investigation, Liaoshen Evening News reported.

The hanging took place just two days after Su was admitted to Fukang.

"Fukang promised to check the patient wards about every 30 minutes," her daughter said. "If the doctor found her in time then she would not have died."

Her relatives suspected Su committed suicide. Su's daughter accompanied her until dinner time on Tuesday and said: "She has a history of mental diseases of over 30 years and never tried to commit suicide in the past."
