Doctor suspected of wrong diagnosis for boy's death

A two-year-old boy died while receiving an intravenous injection in a hospital in southern Guangdong Province to treat his fever, but the doctor rewrote the boy's medical record after his sudden death because her "handwriting wasn't good."

The toddler was diagnosed with common flu and put on antibiotics in a hospital in Dongguan City on Tuesday, the Guangzhou Daily reported today.

The boy suffered a seizure while receiving the second bottle of a prescribed medication and died half an hour later despite rescue efforts.

The boy's parents suspected the doctor surnamed Lu prescribed the wrong medicine, but Lu argued that the boy suffered from the hand-foot-mouth disease instead of common flu. She tore several pages from the patient's medical record book and rewrote the record.

Lu said she rewrote the medical records because her previous handwriting was not good and hard to read.

The parents are waiting for the test result to find out the real cause of their son's death and will settle the medical dispute through consultation.
