Doctor thwarts teen couple's plan to sell newborn daughter

A NEWBORN girl was saved from being sold on an adoption website by her underage parents after doctors tipped off police in Guangzhou City, capital of Guangdong Province, New Express Daily reported.

The parents of the baby are 17-year-old students. They told police the baby was not planned and their parents didn't know about it, according to the report. The young couple told officers they found a baby adoption website where a baby girl could be sold for 70,000 yuan (US$11,400).

The police had informed the baby's grandparents to take care of the newborn.

"We are not planning to raise her ourselves," the father of the baby told a doctor, according to the newspaper. "We found some adoption websites and girls are in demand."

The doctor called police after hearing their plan.

The baby was born on Tuesday night after the couple called an ambulance.

"She was only 17, a minor," a doctor surnamed Ding, who checked the mother's identification card when she arrived, was quoted as saying. "The position of the fetus was good and the baby was 40 weeks old. The woman was ready for a natural delivery."

The woman arrived at the hospital at 8:44pm and the baby was born about 60 minutes later.
