Doctor's microblog draws wrath of Chinese netizens

A 27-year-old doctor was suspended from her work after she posted "I wish the patient to die after my shift" in Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, Shantou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Guangdong Province said yesterday.

A microblogger named "snooky" appeared to be a doctor according to her words posted on the social network website around midnight on February 16. She wrote: "The patient's blood oxygen is falling. Probably I have to get up in the middle of night to pick up her body. I even have the funeral home's phone number at hand. But I still wish she could hang on tonight. I's so cold … not easy for me to have a warm sleep. I wish the patient to die after my shift."

She wrote another microblog the next day: "The highlight of report: the patient died at 2:10pm this afternoon. I can have a nice sleep tonight and enjoy a trip tomorrow!"

A snapshot of these words spread quickly on the Internet. Angry netizens tracked down the real person of "snooky" through photos she posted on Weibo. She turned out to be Li Conglin, a physician of Shantou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.

The hospital confirmed the identity of Li and told Guangzhou Daily yesterday that they had questioned Li about her microblog and she said her Weibo account had been hacked and she had no idea about those postings.

Li is being investigated for "inappropriate remarks in her microblogs" and "suspended from her work," the hospital said in a statement yesterday on its website.
