Dog thefts arrests
BEIJING police have arrested four people in connection with the theft of more than 100 dogs which were later sold to slaughterhouses.
A gang had targeted villages in Beijing and neighboring Hebei Province since December, police said. Members broke into residences, kidnapping large dogs, such as Tibetan mastiffs and golden retrievers, and selling them for 16 yuan (US$2.4) a kilogram. Valuables were also taken. Police said the four had confessed to making 40,000 yuan from selling the dogs. The four were arrested along with two buyers earlier this month.
