Dognapper detained after pet pooch eaten in restaurant
A dognapper in Jilin Province was detained for stealing an expensive Alaskan malamute, which was eventually eaten after it was sold to a restaurant, New Culture Newspaper reported today.
The dog owner, surnamed Yang, said his Alaskan malamute went missing in his shop on November 6. He checked surveillance videos of nearby shops and found two suspects stole the dog.
According to the video, a woman walked a golden retriever to lure the Alaskan malamute from the shop. After the dog was far enough from the shop, the dog was chained and taken away by a man, the report said.
After police refused to check into the case, Yang posted the photos of his dog and the dognappers on WeChat. One netizen provided the dognapper’s location. Yang went there and waited for two hours and caught the dognapper, the report said.
The dognapper told Wang his dog had been sold to a dealer for 700 yuan (US$114). When Yang found the dog dealer, the animal had already been sold to a restaurant and was eaten.
Yang said he paid US$10,000 to buy the Alaskan malamute in the United States and transported it back to China in 2005.
It was not clear whether the man who chained the dog or the woman who lured it away from Wang’s shop had been detained. But police did say they are looking for the other suspect, according to the report.
