Donor appalled to find his school turned into leather mill
The former Hong Kong delegate to the National People's Congress, Wu Kangmin, recently found the primary school built in Zengcheng, a city in Guangdong Province, in 1996 with his donation of 200,000 yuan had turned into a leather factory but the local government had never informed him about the change.
Wu published an article in today's Ming Pao Daily in Hong Kong, asking the local government to explain the school's change because he, as the donor, had the right to know, and he suspected local officials might earn money by converting his school into a factory.
Wu said he donated the primary school in memory of his mother. Wu learned from his friend that his school had been shut down and the facilities were rent out to a leather factory. Last week he went to the school himself to find out and a local student told him that the school had been shut down for almost two years.
