Downpour-triggered landslide kills 21 in Qinghai

Torrential rain and hail triggered a landslide in a county in northwest China’s Qinghai Province yesterday evening, killing 21 construction workers at a sand plant, according to Xinhua news agency.

The workers were having dinner when the disaster took place in the Ulan County under the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. More than 20 workers were carried away by the landslide.

As of this morning, 21 people have been confirmed dead and seven others have been sent to a local hospital for injuries.

The search for three missing people is under way.
