Driver charged of murder for rolling over boy four times

THE driver arrested by police for running over a boy four times with a BMW SUV could face up to seven years in jail if found guilty, Xinhua news agency reported today.

The accident occurred on September 7 in Xinyi, Jiangsu Province, and has arouse public uproar as many accused the 33-year-old driver, surnamed Wu, of deliberately crushing the three-year-old boy to death after the first knock-over so that he could pay one-off compensation and avoid a long-term financial burden.

The boy's parents have demanded a murder charge against Wu after watching the five-minute surveillance video which they said "showed Wu's murderous intention."

The video showed Wu knocking down the boy when he was backing his car on a driveway in a residential complex.

With the boy still alive under the left rear wheel, Wu stopped for a moment then jerked forth, running over the kid again. He came out for a check and the SUV oddly moved backward on itself and rolled over the boy two more times with its rear and front wheels.
