Driver faces inquiry over bus crash
SLIPPERY conditions and poor driving were to blame for a road accident that killed 14 people and injured 40 others in north China's Shanxi Province last week, police said yesterday.
The accident happened on Friday, when a bus with 54 on board from Hebei Province to Taiyuan, Shanxi's capital, plunged 50 meters into a valley while it wound through a mountainous road in Yangquan City.
Ten passengers were killed on the spot, three died on the way to hospital. A woman, 28, surnamed Li, died in the hospital a day later.
An official with the Yangquan municipal government said eight who were seriously injured were in intensive care units.
The driver, who broke a leg in the accident, is under investigation.
