Driver gets fined in China while studying in US

A woman in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, was astonished to find she had 795 points deducted from her driving license during the period when she studied in the United States, a local newspaper reported yesterday.

The woman surnamed Tong said she was in America from February 2006 to October 2011, but she was told recently that she had violated traffic rules 328 times during that period, Wuhan Evening News said.

Wuhan police authorities began to investigate and found several traffic police teams and vehicle inspectors who are unqualified to give punishment were involved in the case.

"I have no idea how they could give me punishment when I was not at the scene," Tong said.

According to the rules, offenders have to sign their names on the tickets and provide required licenses to traffic police when caught breaking a rule. Besides, a driving license has only 12 points for deduction in one year.

The woman said she did not lend or lose her driving license and suspected that her personal data might have leaked.

Chen Ji, a spokesman for the Wuhan Public Security Bureau, promised to solve the case as soon as possible, but he didn't comment on Tong's suspicion, the paper said.
