Drivers in crowded Nanjing tunnel show unselfishness for passing ambulance
DRIVERS in a crowded tunnel during the morning rush hour were photographed voluntarily making way for an ambulance in the eastern city of Nanjing, a refreshing departure from past reports of drivers refusing to pull over for ambulances responding to emergencies.
While traffic was moving slowly in the crowded Xuanwuhu Tunnel at around 7:27am, none of the drivers refused to pull over upon hearing the ambulance’s sirens, microbloggers said on Weibo.
The news was reposted by the Nanjing publicity department and went viral online. “I praise all of the drivers who created a path for life,” one comment read.
Just a few days ago, a video clip that spread online showed thousands of drivers pulling over for an ambulance on a highway in Germany. Chinese netizens had said they were surprised by the good manners of the Germans, but this time, the good karma flowed from China.
“I hope this is just the start and more cities carry on in this spirit,” a microblogger said.
