Drought fight continues
CHINA still faces the grim task of fighting a drought despite snowfalls and enhanced irrigation in major wheat growing regions, drought relief officials said yesterday.
The drought is likely to affect more crops as the weather warms up and the winter wheat needs lots of water when turning green, according to Chen Lei, deputy director of the general office of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.
The drought has left more than 2.81 million people and 2.57 million livestock short of drinking water.
