Drug addict, 26, shot dead by police in self-defense

A 26-year-old drug addict was shot dead last night after he tried to stab a policeman with a knife in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, according to the China News Service.
The man, surnamed Wu, and four friends were taking drugs in a hotel room when police entered after receiving a tip-off. He dashed out of the room even though the officers asked them to squat down. When he saw an officer was chasing after him, he turned around and tried to stab the officer with a spring knife.
The policeman fell to the ground while trying to dodge his knife and fired a warning shot. But Wu continued his attack and the officer had to shoot him. Wu was wounded and dropped dead after running another 40 meters or so.
Police said Wu had been jailed before for drug taking and trafficking. Another man and three women are now in police custody for investigation.
