Drug addicts force abducted children to steal
Police have rescued 21 teenagers who were kidnapped and forced to steal in Nanchang, capital of the eastern Jiangxi Province.
The children were forced to steal money on the street and in crowded department stores. Each must fulfill a daily quota of 3,000 yuan (US$472) to 5,000 yuan or they would be beaten or tortured by dogs, the China News Service reported yesterday.
Police have busted five criminal rings, detained 64 suspects and freed the 21 children. Cash, drugs and 75 cellphones were confiscated as well, the report said.
The criminal rings controlled the youngsters with violence, sometimes releasing dogs to bite those kids who failed to meet their daily targets, the police said.
The ring leaders were all drug addicts and needed thousands of yuan each day to buy drugs, the officers said.
