Drug lord handed to China to face murder charges
The drug trafficking kingpin Naw Kham, whose men allegedly attacked Chinese ships and killed 13 Chinese sailors on the Mekong River last October, will be handed to Chinese authorities by their Laos counterparts today in Vientiane, the country's capital.
China's chartered plane arrived in Vientiane this morning to escort Naw Kham to the Chinese mainland, China Central Television reported today.
A joint preliminary investigation by China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand found Naw Kham and his members allegedly killed the 13 Chinese sailors on October 5.
Naw Kham leads a private militia that for the past five years has terrorized crews of vessels sailing a narrow stretch of the Mekong between Laos and Myanmar, according to the report.
He was arrested on April 25 in Laos.
