Drug maker caught red-handed

POLICE caught a man packaging 100 kilograms of the drug "ice" at a rented house in downtown Guangzhou on Monday, Guangzhou Daily reported today.

Dealers had been using the house as a drug factory, packaging the drugs into fertilizer sacks and then moving the sacks elsewhere late at night. Police found sacks of "ice" and more than 20 buckets of chemicals.

From the end of February police had the house under observation after noting that the inhabitants never appeared in public, the house was kept shut up all the time and curtains on the windows and doors were kept drawn.

On Monday when a car drove into the courtyard of the house, watching police followed it in along with neighborhood management staff.

Although the driver escaped police found the man, surnamed Yang, packaging the drugs inside. Neighbors said they had no idea the house was being used as a drug factory although they reported pungent smells at night.

The house is only about 100 meters away from Dadao Road, one of the business centers in Guangzhou city.
