Education subsidies boosted
The government has raised its basic financial support for primary and junior middle schools catering to disabled students by 50 percent to 6,000 yuan (US$930) per child per year, the Ministry of Education said yesterday.
The move is part of the government’s promise to provide free primary and middle school education for 90 percent of children with visual, hearing and learning disabilities by the end of next year.
The pledge was made last year in a plan for special needs education.
Meanwhile, primary schools in east China will receive an annual subsidy of 650 yuan per student, while junior high schools will get 850 yuan per pupil.
Such funds are for the daily operation of schools across the nine-year compulsory education. Additional subsidies are available for students from poor backgrounds.
