Election fraud snares lawmaker

Hu Guochu, a senior lawmaker in Hunan Province, has been detained for his suspected involvement in major electoral fraud.
Hunan prosecutors said Hu, former chairman of the Standing Committee of the Hengyang City People’s Congress, had been placed under criminal detention for dereliction of duty.
The province’s discipline inspection commission said that Hu had received bribes and failed to take effective measures to stop vote-buying during an election he oversaw in Hengyang City.
