Electric shock claims 3
A SWIMMING pool in Tianjin Municipality has been closed after a live electric wire snapped and fell into the pool, killing three people and injuring several others.
Bohai Swimming Pool executives are being investigated by police after the fatal accident on July 14.
Authorities said an electric wire, which was connected to a sunshade above the pool, ruptured and fell into the water due to strong wind.
Some witnesses said at least six people, including a 67-year-old swimming instructor, were injured and hospitalized. Authorities declined to reveal details before they completed their investigation.
A middle-aged woman who refused to be named said her boyfriend and her sister's husband were killed by an electric shock. Her sister is still unconscious after suffering heart damage and her right arm may also require amputation.
The woman said she also felt a shock, but was lucky to rush into the locker room and cry for help.
Xue Bingxue, 63, ran to help. He used wood tools to drag the woman's sister out of the pool and carried her to the locker room with the help of others.
Xue was killed by an electric shock when he returned to save more people in the pool.
Some witnesses said it took at least one minute for the swimming pool operator to cut off the power.
Police said they are still investigating the case.
