Electrocuted woman may have used non-original iPhone charger

A WOMAN killed by an electric shock when making a phone call while recharging an iPhone in northwest China was believed to have been using a charger that did not originally come with the phone, according to a China Central Television news report.
Ma Ailun, 23, a former flight attendant for China Southern Airlines, was electrocuted in her home in the Hui Autonomous Prefecture of Changji in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Thursday, police said.
The iPhone 4 that Ma was using had burns on both sides, while the charger was apparently not the original charger from Apple Inc, according to the CCTV footage.
The victim had burns on her body, police said, adding that the accident was still under investigation.
Apple China has issued a statement saying the company will thoroughly investigate the accident and collaborate with the police investigation.
"A non-original charger may use low-quality electric capacity and a safety circuit that let the 220-volt electric circuit run through the phone and electrocute the woman," said Xiang Ligang, a telecommunication expert in Beijing.
