Elephants injure two tourists in SW China

Two tourists were injured by a group of wild elephants at a scenic spot in southwest China's Yunnan Province yesterday afternoon, local authorities said.

The accident happened at the Wild Elephant Valley in the Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna at about 2pm. when the elephants trying to cross a river hit a family of five, according to the prefecture forest police.

A woman suffered from a comminuted fracture in her right shoulder and a man was also slightly injured. They are receiving treatment at a local hospital, according to the police.

The elephants were driven away by the police.
