Emergency Level Raised

THE emergency response to the floods that have hit southern China was raised to Level 3 from Level 4 yesterday, as authorities forecast more rain to come.

The decision was made by the the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the State Disaster Relief Commission.

As of 10am yesterday, the rain that began pounding southern China last Sunday had left 88 people dead and 48 missing, the ministry said. The State Council has dispatched work teams to flood-affected areas to guide the disaster relief work.
