Escaped prisoner back behind bars

A MAN who escaped from a prison in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province nearly two weeks ago is back behind bars.

Chen Congcong, 21, was caught by police at around 3pm yesterday in Harbin after police were tipped off about his whereabouts, according to the Website of Heilongjiang Public Security Department.

Chen broke out of Harbin's Liming prison with Sun Xingcheng on February 23. Chen made his escape dressed in women's clothes and was said to be extremely dangerous.

He tried to obtain a fake ID so he could get a job, Xinhua news agency reported.

Sun, 23, was caught on a highway to Beijing just three days after the escape. Sun tried to kill himself with a broken glass bottle but was stopped by police, the report said.

The two were serving 10-year jail terms for robbery.

Police have not revealed details of how the two convicts managed to escape.
