Ex minister's associate held in graft probe

A senior railway official known as a close ally to China's disgraced railway minister has been suspended from his post for investigation, according to ministry officials.

Zhang Shuguang, 55, deputy chief engineer of the Ministry of Railways and general director of the transport bureau, has been held for questioning as the probe into his former superior Liu Zhijun unfolded, Beijing-based business journal Caixin Weekly quoted an insider as saying.

Zhang is known as "the pioneer of China's high-speed railway technology" and a close associate to Liu, who was sacked last month for "severe violation of discipline" by the anti-corruption watchdog.
