Ex-Beijing official expelled by the Party

Beijing’s former deputy Party chief, Lu Xiwen, has been expelled from the Communist Party and dismissed from public office for alleged offenses that include graft, groundless criticisms of the Party line and hindering investigations.

“Lu severely violated political discipline and rules,” the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said in a statement yesterday.

She made groundless criticisms of key policies, formed cliques and obstructed investigations, the statement said, without elaborating.

Lu, 60, accepted bribes and took advantage of her post to seek profits for others, including helping relatives, the statement said, adding that she failed to properly supervise people working around her.

Lu seriously violated organizational rules in promoting officials, failed to report relevant personal matters and meddled with the selection of officials in her former work unit, it said.

She flouted frugality rules by frequenting private clubs and “living an extravagant life,” the statement added.

She seriously violated rules by intervening in economic and law enforcement activities, it said, again without elaborating.

As an alternate member of the Party’s Central Committee, Lu showed no signs of self-discipline even after the 18th National Congress in 2012, when the anti-corruption campaign was launched, the statement said.

Lu’s illegal gains will be confiscated and her case handed over to prosecutors, it added.

The commission announced in November that it was investigating her.
